CARS | Cash for Clunkers information

The agency amended its rule implementing the CARS program. Dealers may now choose to disable the engine of the trade-in vehicle after they receive payment from the government for the credit (not more than seven calendar days after payment). However, until the vehicle’s engine is disabled, the dealer must store the vehicle at a location under the control of the dealership.

In addition, because New Hampshire and Wisconsin do not have an insurance requirement under State law, trade-in vehicles registered in these two States are exempt from the one-year insurance requirement.

“CARS” (Car Allowance Rebate System), also known as “Cash for Clunkers”, or “Cash for Guzzlers” is a Government program operated by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to offer U.S. drivers an incentive to purchase a new, more fuel-efficient, vehicle. This will get more new cars on the road, and get old gas-guzzling models off them.

There are a few requirements to receive the $3,500 or $4,500 credit. These include:

* Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date
* Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify
* Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements)
* Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in
* You don’t need a voucher, dealers will apply a credit at purchase
* Program runs through Nov 1, 2009 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
* The vehicle that you are trading in is required to be destroyed. Therefore, the value you negotiate with the dealer for your trade in is not likely to exceed its scrap value. The law requires the dealer to disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in vehicle.

With the new Apple iPhone 3.0 software you can now use an iPhone to stream Bluetooth music to your Toyota!

From the video you can see the process is actually pretty smooth. By streaming music via Bluetooth it frees up your new Toyota from the clutter of unnecessary wires, keeping your new Toyota looking great!

Of course, along with the streaming Bluetooth audio, you are also able to use Bluetooth for hands-free operation. With newer Toyota’s there is an option for a Toyota post-production option for Bluetooth. So even if you don’t have a factory radio or navigation system with Bluetooth built in, you are still able to get it installed.

“Toyota’s Prius hybrid – already Japan’s biggest selling car – more than doubled its sales in June to claim the top spot for a second month, reflecting government tax breaks and growing popularity of products viewed as environmentally friendly. The Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Monday that Toyota Motor Corp. sold 22,292 of the Prius cars in June, far more than the 10,915 it sold in May, when a revamped version of the car debuted.” -AP reports

For those familiar with the 2009 Toyota Corolla, the 2010 model will appear to be almost identical. For consumers there is some great news: the 2010 Corolla comes in at a lower price point with more features standard. For the 2010 Toyota Corolla Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control have been made standard. Also known as an antiskid system, stability control is designed to prevent sideways slides. Traction control aids grip away from stops and is useful on wet surfaces. These significant safety features had been standard only on the Corolla XRS and were a $250 option on the other models.

Although not a drastic change in design, many customers will benefit from the added safety features of the 2010 Toyota Corolla, and all will benefit from the great low starting price! For those that live in Wisconsin, the VSC is a welcome standard feature.

With the 2010 model year the 2010 model Camry brings in some new features – most notably would be a new 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine for the refreshed Camry. The new engine brings a new 6 speed transmission to the Camry.
